Poeta i professor. Catedràtic de Filologia Grega de la Universitat de Barcelona. Director de la revista Ítaca i membre ordinari de l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans. Estudiós del mite i la poesia dels grecs antics, ha traduït textos filosòfics, poesia hel·lenística i novel·la grega. També ha estudiat poetes del segle XV i alguns de moderns, com Verdaguer, Riba, Salvat-Papasseit o Foix. L’any 2002 aplegà a Proa la seva poesia completa a D’aspra dolcesa: poesia 1963-2001, que havia començat amb La terra humida (1967). Entre els seus llibres d’assaig hi ha Lectura de les Elegies de Bierville de Carles Riba (Curial, 1978), La mà de l’arquer (Columna, 1990), Premi Nacional de Poesia (1992), o Sobre Foix (Quaderns Crema, 1993), Premi Crítica Serra d’Or (1994). El seu darrer llibre és Homer (Empúries, 2005), que busca orientar al lector davant l’obra del poeta.

Dichter und Professor. Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Griechische Philologie an der Universität Barcelona. Er ist der Chefredakteur der Zeitschrift Ítaca und Mitglied des Instituts für katalanische Studien. Der Forscher der altgriechischen Mythen und Poesie übersetzt philosophische Texte ebenso wie hellenistische Gedichte oder griechische Romane. Seine Studien führen ihn sowohl zu Dichtern des 15. Jahrhunderts als auch der Moderne wie Verdaguer, Riba, Salvat-Papasseit oder Foix. Im Jahr 2002 brachte er bei Proa sein komplettes poetisches Werk mit dem Band Von herber Süße: Poesie 1963-2001 heraus, das er 1967 mit der Veröffentlichung von Feuchte Erde begonnen hatte. Weitere Titel von ihm sind Lektüre der Elegien von Bierville von Carles Riba (Curial, 1978), Die Hand des Bogenschützen (Columna, 1990), Nationaler Lyrikpreis 1992, und Über Foix (Quaderns Crema, 1993), ausgezeichnet mit dem Preis Crítica Serra d’Or (1994). Als letztes ist Homer (Empúries, 2005) von ihm erschienen, in dem er versucht, dem Leser das Werk des Dichters nahe zu bringen.

Poet and professor. Miralles is professor of Greek Philology at the University of Barcelona. He is Director of the magazine Ítaca and a regular member of the Institut of Catalan Studies. A scholar of myth and ancient Greek poetry, he has translated philosophic texts, Hellenistic poetry and the Greek novel. He has also studied poets of the 15th century and some moderns such as Verdaguer, Riba, Salvat-Papasseit and Foix. In 2002 Miralles gathered through Proa his complete poetic oeuvre in From Sweet Roughness: poetry 1963-2001 which began with The Humid Earth (1967). Among his books of essays are: Reading of the Elegies of Carles Riba’s Bierville (Curial, 1978); The Hand of the Archer (Columna, 1990), winner of the National Prize of Poetry 1992; About Foix (Quaderns Crema, 1993), winner of the Crítica Serra d’Or Prize (1994). His latest book is Homer (Empúries, 2005), which looks to orient the reader before the work of the poet.
