Just a few months ago, Maria del Mar Bonet and Miguel Poveda, two of the most popular figures
on the music scene today, met for the first time on stage. She, passionate about popular music
all over the Mediterranean; he, an exceptional voice in so-called New Flamenco.
The experience
of sharing two worlds, in theory far removed one from the other, was so extraordinary that they
decided to meet again. This night, they do just that, bringing to the Alte Oper their production Els
treballs i els dies, and paying an emotional homage to Mallorcan and Flamenco popular traditions.
Songs sung in the fields whilst working, reaping and harvesting, passed down from generation to
generation, a testimony to other times, other voices. Separately and together, Bonet and Poveda
take the audience by the hand and lead it to Catalonia, to Andalusia, to Mallorca, to Italy, to
North Africa& weaving a rich tapestry embroidered by exquisite traditional music.
