Catalan symphonic music with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Barcelona and Catalonia (OBC) under the direction of Salvador Mas and with the participation of soprano Oflia Sala.
Barcelona Symphony / National Orchestra of Catalonia brings to the Alte Oper a programme that focuses not only on some of the most important names in 20th-century Catalan music, but also on
their most outstanding scores, veritable masterpieces of contemporary music.
The OBC will be
conducted by Salvador Mas, one of the leading maestros produced by the Barcelona School for
Musical Conductors, with a rich career, particularly in Germany. Accompanied by the voice of the
soprano Oflia Sala, the OBC brings to the main auditorium in the Frankfurt Opera House a
vibrant, emotive programme comprising the indispensable Trencads by Joan Guinjoan (1931), the
thrilling La Rosa als llavis by Eduard Toldr (1895-1962) and the exceptional post-Impressionist
piece by Frederic Mompou (1893-1987), Combat del somni, featuring arrangements by Antoni Ros
Marb.
Other jewels in the crown of Catalan contemporary music performed this magical evening
include the Tres sonates del Pare Soler by Lamote de Grignon (1872-1949), Codex by Bernat
Vivancos (1973) and Don Quixot by Robert Gerhard (1896-1970).
