The first group of foreign publishers arrives in Barcelona to learn more about Catalan literature

The day after tomorrow, Thursday 30 November, the first of several groups of publishers from abroad will arrive in Barcelona, with a view to finding out more about Catalan literature and which titles have not yet been published in their respective countries. The programme of publishers' visits, promoted by the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), forms part of the activities to prepare for the Frankfurt Book Fair 2007, at which Catalan culture will be Guest of Honour.

The visiting publishers (from Holland, Denmark, Portugal, Norway, Finland and Germany) will be holding meetings by arrangement with Catalan publishers and literary agents who represent the rights of authors writing in Catalan. They will also receive information about classic and contemporary works of Catalan literature, to interest them in books that are still unknown in their home countries. Finally, the foreign publishers will take part in information sessions on the IRL's programme of grants for the translation and promotion of works by Catalan authors.

The first group of publishers will be in Barcelona from 30 November to 3 December, and the second visit will take place from 13 to 16 December. From January, there will be visits by other groups from around the world, specialising in children's and juvenile literature and non-fiction.
